I would guess that like me, most folks have not had a V8 in a while. So, when you get one, all sorts of mods come to mind. My current vehicle is a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. Yes, it’s got a Hemi, 5.7 Liter V8. The original exhaust was quite tame to say the least. I am hoping to keep this vehicle around for a while, so why not add a little spice to it?
The last time I made any real changes to a vehicle was my 1965 Pontiac GTO. It had the 389 with tri-power and an M-21 Muncie 4-speed transmission. That was way back in 1988 and at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, It was in pretty rough condition. The transmission hump had been cut out. The rumor was the previous owner took out the original automatic and put in manual transmission so it could be raced. Since I was young and really didn’t know much about cars, I cut the exhaust pipes in front of the axle. It sounded great, but I never put a “down spout” to force the exhaust down and away from the axle.
Once I drove back and left the USAF, I had to sell the GOAT. Never knew much after that about it other than, I have realized that was the worst mistake I have made.
Thanks.
